This Thursday (1/19) I’ll be competing in the Seattle’s Inaugural Red Bull Thre3style DJ Competition/Battle. I’ve been looking forward to this one for a while and I am excited to finally show Seattle what I’m about. For those that don’t know, The Thre3style is about finding the DJ that can best combine the technical elements of DJ’ing with the showmanship needed to rock a party. BLADOW. I’ll admit @Skratchbastid does a much better job explaining it than I can. Peep the link to the video below:

This past weekend I went up to Vancouver BC with my homies DJ Bamboo & DJ J-Flexx.

Skratcher is Vancouver’s premiere open turntable session put on by the homies from from up north. The goal is to keep the art and love for turntablism alive. The energy there nuts and Vancouver had nothing but love to give to everyone. I finally got to meet a bunch of people I’ve been hearing about for a while now no one dissapoints. Vancouver gets down heavy on them double time grimy beats, nasty!

Here’s a vid of me, Panakronic, and DJ Bamboo holding it down in an exhibition slot at Skratcher 2.

Shout out to the homies Panakronic, Mike MSA, Paul Scratch, Itchy Ron, and everyone else who helped put together this gloroious event… as well as all the homies we met while up there.

Looking forward to keeping it movin and can’t wait for the next Skratcher 3… which I think is in June.

Short Cuts, Short Cuts, Short Cuts. I’ll be honest… I’m all for the advancement of technology and it’s implementation in the arts, namely dj’ing, but I never understood why people were so eager to by pass the learning process and try to show off when they really aren’t showing much. Now it’s not against any code of conduct I know, but I mean it has to be universally agreed that if it’s not really helping your game that much… then why are you doing it? Point in case this one turntable phenomenom I’ve been seeing a lot lately. Is there something wrong with the other turntable? No. Is there a lot of vibration in the room that’s messing up your needle’s tracking? No. Is there any real benefit to using one turntable when there’s obviously another one available for you to use? If there is then let it be… but if there isn’t then why the hell are you doing that for? The word hater gets thrown around a lot lately. Hatin on this. Hatin on that. Hatin on me. Hatin on we. I’m not gonna lie I love a little bit of hate every now and then, but I’m not hatin on anyone. Do what you do, but I’m just wondering why people are doing it?

FOR EXAMPLE: I was at a gig last week and the club booked someone to open up the night. I was like oh… ok cool. I set up the gear and let them get on. I took care of a few things during that slow time you know a quick phone call, grabbed a powerbar outta the bag, snagged a drank… tell me why when I came back inside… I was met with a whole lotta SMH’s in the building. Heads weren’t nodding… they were shaking. Look over at the bar staff… SMH’s look over at the door girl… SMH’s… looked back at my self… my own head was shaking. I took a second, finished my drink… and hopped back up to the DJ Booth. In the back of my head I was wondering… do we have a one turntable phenom in the house tonight??? Sure enough… WE HAD ONE IN THE HIZOUSE!!! WHOOP WHOOP! Now analytically I really don’t get it. Why would you be spinning on one turntable… if it’s not even helping you out in any way shape or form. I mean what was the benefit? Mixes were still bein flubbed, song selection was not beefed up, scratching wasn’t crushing it in the mix… what’s the point. Why take the easy way out if it’s not even helping YOU OUT at all. Do it the right way… or else your craft will suffer.
